About United for Respect
United for Respect (UFR) and United for Respect Education Fund (UFREF) is a national organization committed to building power and centering the voices of people working for the country’s largest retail corporations. Through scaled leadership development and base-building, UFR is challenging major corporations and policymakers to create an economy and democracy that meets the needs of all working people. We utilize traditional on-the-ground organizing best practices - in-person outreach in workplaces and homes and public events and actions - and leverage technology — social media, relational tools, and our digital platform — to bring retail workers into a shared community of support and advocacy to win big, bold corporate and public policy change.
California Lead Organizer
United for Respect (UFR) is seeking a passionate and dynamic California Lead Organizer to lead and build organizing efforts among retail workers in the state, specifically Walmart and Amazon workers, to drive state and national campaigns focused on economic and racial justice.
As a Lead Organizer, you will work on empowering retail workers to organize their co-workers and communities for impactful public policy changes and corporate accountability. You’ll be responsible for developing leadership, building committees, organizing actions, and supporting campaigns around living wages, paid family leave, and equitable workplaces free from harassment and discrimination.
If you’re excited about worker empowerment, grassroots organizing, and using both in-person and online strategies to create bold change, we encourage you to apply!
Key Responsibilities:
Recruit and activate retail workers in California to support UFR’s policy agenda and priorities.
Build and develop leadership committees to drive campaigns that raise workplace standards and hold corporations accountable.
Organize actions, press events, and prepare public testimonies.
Support retail workers in sharing their stories publicly, on social media, and through the press.
Coordinate with the state's UFR staff, partners, and junior organizers to achieve campaign goals.
Work with data-driven strategies to move policy-makers and generate actions.
What You’ll Bring:
2-3 years of labor organizing experience (relational organizing experience preferred).
Proficiency with digital tools for organizing and base-building.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly within the state.
Strong interpersonal communication and leadership development skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary range: $70,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience.
Additional cost of living adjustment of up to $6,500 based on location.
Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and 401k.
